40th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Vietnam and Denmark 2011

The Celebrations of 40 years diplomatic relations between Denmark and Vietnam was opened officially in Hanoi during a big business forum for Danish and Vietnamese companies with the presence of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince of Denmark and Danish Minister for Trade and Investment Ms. Pia Olsen Dyhr who visited Vietnam on this occasion. Vietnam’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh attended the forum. Both ministers stressed the long lasting friendship and cooperation between Denmark and Vietnam, not least on development cooperation.

As part of the celebration, a Joint Declaration establishing a strategic partnership within climate change, energy, environment and green growth was signed. The Joint Declaration is the first step towards a new and deeper partnership between Denmark and Vietnam. It sets the frame for a future Comprehensive Partnership Agreement between Vietnam and Denmark to promote the friendship and cooperation between the countries with a focus on strengthened political dialogue and cooperation in multilateral and bilateral fora; expanded economic, trade and investment cooperation; and strengthened cooperation within good governance, culture, education and research.

The Danish Minister for Trade and Investment saw big potential for bringing the cooperation to a new level while development assistance is phasing out towards 2015. Minister Pia Olsen Dyhr said:

“We will move into a more comprehensive partnership based on increased political dialogue and strengthening of commercial ties, not least in the areas of green growth, that is renewable energy, energy efficiency, environment, water and wastewater treatment. I am confident that Danish experience, expertise and green solutions can be of great benefit to Vietnam.”

The new focus areas were widely reflected in the business seminars as well as cultural, educational and other events organized as part of the 40 years celebrations and with the attendance of the HRH I many events.

Business seminars in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City were organized focusing on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Green Growth, Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, Water and Wastewater solutions, Education, Food Safety, Oil and Gas and Climate Change Awareness & Solutions. There was a Research day organized as well as the launching of the first ever Vietnam Climate Change Week, a bicycling tour and a solar car racing.

As part of the 40th year celebrations, a wide variety of cultural activities including Danish Film Week, art project Emergency room, a jazz concert, Children Theatre performance, launch of Children book, Street Arts Festival and badminton competition have been organized in Hanoi and HCMC throughout the week to promote cultural diversity and artistic collaboration between the two countries.
