Green Front Line Mission

The Embassy of Denmark as Green Front Line Mission

The Danish government’s climate ambitions and solutions have a broad outreach across the globe. Therefore, climate and sustainability will, to an even greater extent, be shaping large parts of the foreign, trade, and development policies.

The Danish Ministry of Foreign Affair has developed a sustainability strategy, aiming to be in the top five of the most sustainable Foreign Services in the world within the next five years. As part of the implementation of the strategy, missions abroad are expected to take active measures to become more sustainable.

The Danish Embassy in Hanoi has, together with 19 other embassies, been appointed as a Green Frontline Mission. This means, we will act as frontrunners in integrating the government’s green agenda into our work.

Energy, environment and climate policy work

Denmark is among the most active development partners seeking close cooperation with Vietnam on climate, environment, energy and green growth. The Embassy will continue to further enhance the bilateral and multilateral cooperation with Vietnam in these fields to promote the green transition agenda and green export to Vietnam as stated in the Joint Declaration on the Comprehensive Partnership between Denmark and Vietnam signed in 2013.

In order to implement this Comprehensive Partnership Agreement the Embassy is playing an active role in the Energy Partnership Programme between Vietnam and Denmark. Through this programme, Denmark will continue providing know-how and experience to increase Vietnam’s capacity in development of more renewable energy, moving away from coal and fossil fuels thereby helping to realise Vietnam’s commitment to the Paris Agreement and upscale its NDC goals.

In the multilateral cooperation era, the Embassy contributes to the initiative: Partnering for Green Growth and Global Goals (P4G) where Vietnam is a core member and one of the co-founders together with Denmark. The P4G National Platform in Vietnam, chaired by the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, is a venue where public and private sector partners can collaborate and roll out green growth initiatives. Furthermore, the Embassy also actively engages in the Vietnam Energy Partnership Group, a policy dialogue platform between the government of Vietnam and the development partners community to further advance the green transition in Vietnam.

The Embassy is actively supporting the Team Europe step-up of climate and energy diplomacy outreach through the EU mission in Viet Nam.

The Embassy will continue the promotion of Danish export of green technologies, as the commercial cooperation is of high priority in the Embassy’s work. This work rests with the embassy’s Trade section but is closely coordinated with the ongoing political dialogue in other sections, most notably the Economic Diplomacy section.

Sustainability at the Embassy
At the embassy, we are committed to incorporating sustainability into our daily work. We set out specific measures and targets to improve its sustainability parameters in relation to electricity consumption, paper and water consumption, sustainable procurement, waste management and encouraging green habits.
